Long walk to corps members’ joy as FG begins new ‘allawee’ payment

Launched in 2012 the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has been a vital program for Nigerian graduates providing them with the opportunity to serve their country while gaining valuable skills and experiences. However one major issue has been the delay in the payment of the monthly allowance known as "allawee" to corps members. This has caused frustration and financial strain for many participants. Finally after months of waiting the Federal Government has announced the commencement of a new payment system for allawee which will be done through the NYSC portal. This news has brought great joy and relief to corps members who can now focus on their service without worrying about their finances.

  • 3) The federal government in conjunction with the state government also announced an increment in the civil servant salary last year which has not been implemented since it was announced and signed. Do you think the increment of the corp members allowance will set a precedent and make the government follow suite to increasing the salaries of the civil servant?
