I nearly got suspended for revealing Senators’ pay in 2018 — Shehu Sani

In 2018 Nigerian senator Shehu Sani faced potential suspension for disclosing the salaries and allowances of senators. Sani who was a member of the Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debts had revealed that senators earned about $37500 per month in addition to other allowances. This disclosure caused an uproar among Nigerians who were outraged by the high salaries and benefits of their elected officials. Sanis actions were seen as a breach of confidentiality and he was threatened with suspension by the Senate. However after much public pressure the Senate eventually backed down and Sani was not suspended but the issue shed light on the excessive pay of Nigerian senators.
