Nigerians kick as FG hints at electricity tariff hike (Daily Trust)
The Nigerian government has hinted at a possible increase in electricity tariffs causing an uproar among citizens. The proposed hike which would be the second in 2020 has been met with criticism and outrage with many Nigerians already struggling to pay high electricity bills. The government has defended the potential increase stating that it is necessary to attract private investment and improve the countrys power sector. However citizens argue that the government should focus on addressing the root causes of the poor electricity supply and high tariffs such as corruption and mismanagement. Many fear that the increase will only add to the financial burden of Nigerians already struggling with the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
