Nigeria Sliding Towards One-Party Dictatorship, Group Alleges (New Telegraph)
A group known as the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has alleged that Nigeria is sliding towards a one-party dictatorship. The group which is made up of opposition parties claims that the ruling party the All Progressives Congress (APC) is using its power to silence dissenting voices and stifle opposition. They also accuse the government of targeting and persecuting opposition leaders and members. The CUPP has called for international intervention to prevent Nigeria from becoming a one-party state. The ruling party has denied the allegations stating that the government is committed to upholding democracy and protecting the rights of all citizens.
