The Collapse of Power in Nigeria: Bring Back ECN (Daily Trust)

The collapse of power in Nigeria has been a major issue for decades with frequent power outages and blackouts affecting the daily lives of its citizens. Many blame the privatization of the power sector in the early 2000s for the decline in electricity supply as well as corruption and mismanagement. As a result there have been calls to bring back the defunct Electricity Corporation of Nigeria (ECN) a government-owned entity that was responsible for power generation and distribution before privatization. Some argue that the government should take back control of the power sector to address the ongoing issues and improve the countrys electricity supply.

    Private businesses are profit oriented who at all cost want to make profit irrespective of the economic situation of a nation or community they find themselves, ECN as a government entity is to serve the citizens of the nation,

    The purpose of privatizing electricity distribution in Nigeria as not been justified as blackout, collapse of national grid as been the new trend.

    We as citizens implore the federal government to bring back ECN
  • 3) Given how essential electricity is to education, jobs, and healthcare, can we really call it progress if Nigeria hasn’t solved its power crisis?
