Poor power supply persists despite increased generation, tariff hike

Despite an increase in power generation and a recent tariff hike Nigeria is still plagued by poor power supply. This has been a long-standing issue in the country with many households and businesses suffering from frequent blackouts and unreliable electricity. The government has made efforts to improve the situation such as investing in new power plants and increasing tariffs but the problem persists. Many factors contribute to this including inadequate infrastructure mismanagement and corruption. The lack of consistent and reliable electricity has a significant impact on the economy and the daily lives of Nigerians. More needs to be done to address this ongoing issue.

It really not clear when the power problem of the country will end. This is a problem that has been persisting for decades and it doesn’t seem to get better.

  • 2) Factors like poor and old infrastructures, lack of maintenance and corruption contributes to poor power supply in Nigeria. This lack of regular power supply has a significant impact on the economy most especially to small SMES, businesses and affect the daily productivity of the citizens. What would your advice be to the government to solving this issue?

The infrastructures in the power sectors are old which has to be phased out so new ones can come in and the lack of maintenance is something the government really needs to address very strictly. If both issues can be addressed maybe there will be some improvement.

Do you think the present administration should also consider this option?

Well nobody can tell for sure if selling the power sector will help the industry but I think the government should leave politics aside and work with companies and individuals that can really help make positive changes in the sector.
