obbery further investigation revealed they were innocent or had been wrongfully arrested and detained.The Chief Judge of Rivers State Justice Simeon Amadi launched a jail delivery exercise to address prolonged detentions and overcrowding in correctional facilities. 21 inmates including a man who spent 18 years in custody without trial were released from the Port Harcourt Correctional Centre. One inmate Gospel Nwibari was arrested at 14 and remained in jail without legal representation or a trial. The exercise is part of a larger initiative to decongest prisons and reform the criminal justice system in the state. Justice Amadi noted that many of the released inmates had no case files or valid charges against them and some were found to be innocent or wrongfully detained.
