‘Disgraceful, display of thuggery’ – Political parties react as Gov Okpebholo threatens Peter Obi (Daily Post)
opThe Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has condemned Governor Monday Okpebholos warning to 2027 presidential aspirant Peter Obi not to enter Edo State without prior notification and approval. The governors threat according to CUPP is a death threat and a violation of Obis rights. This is not the first time Obi has been cautioned by an APC-led state with the first being from the governor of Benue State. Governor Okpebholos statement that Obi can enter the state at his own risk and will have himself to blame if anything happens to him is seen as a serious threat. The last time Obi visited the state unrest and deaths were reported and the governor is using this as a justification for his warning. This incident highlights the tense political climate in Nigeria and the need for politicians to respect each others rights and safety.

Responses- 1) Many call it shameless thuggery, Shouldn’t political leaders be held to a higher standard in their words?
- 2) When politicians use threats instead of dialogue, Does it push young people to lose faith in the system?
- 3) Given how often political scandals fade in Nigeria, Do you think this one will be quickly forgotten too?
- 4) If the roles were reversed and Obi made such a comment, Would the reactions be the same?
